8 March 1941

By Kaitlyn Hanson

At 9.20pm on 8 March, 1941, a high explosive bomb hit Lomath Bros Furniture Depository on Rampayne Street SW1.

There were no casualties, but the roof of the Depository was blown off, and Rampayne Street was partly blocked by debris.

The Luftwaffe raid of 8 March 1941 was particularly heavy. That night, 25,000 incendiaries and 130 tons of high explosive were dropped across the capital.
