Great Aunt Blanche

Died in V2 attack

By Anne Garrett

My Great Aunt Blanche was sat in the park by Speakers' Corner when the V2 fell on the 18th March 1945. She was taken to a hospital nearby but later died of her injuries. She was known to be a bit eccentric and one story was that she had a pillow with her and feathers were all around her when they found her. I'm not too sure if this is right but she was a great artist and wrote novels. That's probably why she was thought eccentric, being a woman of independence in them days. I would have love to have known her!
